Frequently Asked Questions
These are some of the questions that have been raised by school personnel since the inception of the School Counts! program. If your question is not addressed in this list, please feel free to contact Kate Winkels directly for assistance.
Q: Why is there a charge for the School Counts! kit?
A: The cost of the kits covers all of the materials inside plus a one year license agreement and a voucher to have a business person come to your school to deliver the School Counts! presentation to your students.
Q: Can special needs students participate in the program?
A: Absolutely. The criteria of the program are designed to accommodate all students. School Counts! guideline information is included in all School Counts! kits which outlines how each of the criteria must be met by the students.
Q: How can our school pay for the School Counts! kit if we haven't budgeted for it this year?
A: There are a variety of creative ways to pay for the School Counts! kit. You can find a local business partner to purchase the kit for you. You can charge students a reasonable fee for the certificates if you so choose. Or, you can use Perkins funds. Each school that received Perkins funding submitted a 5 year plan delineating how that funding would be spent. If you school can fit the kit under one of the predetermined budget items, there is no problem. However, you need to contact your Perkins facilitator at the NJ Department of Education to get permission to use that funding to purchase a School Counts! kit.
In addition, schools may use Character Education funds from the NJ DOE to pay for the School Counts! kit.
